On Wednesday, August 15, 2012, NOHSIC hosted a conversation with our legislative representatives on the Federal and State level. Congressional representatives James Renacci and Betty Sutton joined State representatives Nickie Antonio, Capri Cafaro, Zach Milkovich, Matt Szollosi, and Frank LaRose and NOHSIC systems for an information meeting to discuss current and future Healthcare Workforce challenges. The event was hosted by NOHSIC partner Summa Health System's CEO and President, Tom Strauss and included comments from NOHSIC partner Southwest General Health System CEO and President, Tom Selden.
Due to the success of last fall’s English and Pathways for Healthcare Professionals program, NOHSIC, Global Cleveland, and the Ohio Board of Regents will host a second Cleveland program beginning September 22, 2012. The Columbus Dispatch (July 16, 2012) reports more nurses are "hitting the books." Nationwide, enrollment of registered nurses in bachelor ’s of science degree programs soared to nearly 90,000 last year, a 76 percent increase from 2007, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
